looking for kabocha squash. it's a japanese pumpkin. i've seen it my local health food store for $2.69/lb but i'd like to find it for a bit cheaper if possible. can i get it in chinatown?
Absolutely. You'll see it in many places. I bought some about two weeks ago at a small produce stand on the south side of Bayard between Mott and Elizabeth. Don't recall what I paid for it, but I'm sure it was a good deal less than that.
thanks, joan! i'll head down there this weekend and check it out. it costs a small fortune if you buy it organic or at a health food store. ; )
I have also seen it @ Union Square Greenmarket. $3 for a huge one last I bought.
thx! do you remember what day by any chance? i know the farmers differ on mon/wed/fr/sat.
If you have a friend at the Park Slope Food Coop; frequently sold for under or near $2/lb.Don't mean to be snobby, a wonderful squash. Incredible flavor skin and flesh are delicately sweet. Luv it.
thx for the suggestion! that's a great price, too. i'm going to look around chinatown.
