Richmond VA help
Going to be in Richmond this coming weekend. Would like some suggestions for dining spots that are easily accessible to the Marriott near the convention center. Thanks for any help!

you are close by comfort - have heard fabulous things. there's also a bunch in the shockoe slip. i think sam miller's has decent food. the whole vibe down there is fun.

Sam Miller's sucks like a Hoover. Definitely go to Comfort. I'd also recommend for Italian Edo's Squid at Harrison and Grace (they take reservations also). Avoid: Tobacco Company which undoubtley someone at the hotel will try to steer you towards. For dinner and/or brunch Mille's Diner is great.

well, i've only been there once but what i had was just fine. compared to a lot of the barely mediocre food in this city at beloved places like cancan and acacia that were recommended when we got here a few years back i was pleasantly surprised.
didn't like hard shell much. and agree would avoid tobacco company. sine and richbrau too. thought cafe europa was pretty good. would go back.

I'm not a fan of Can-Can or Acacia. We had dinner last night at Lulu's and it was very good. We also like Sensi, but it's a pretty high price point. We also love Karsen's.

i making a long list... thanks!
the first few places that people told us were the best when we moved here were awful so i got rather bummed out on richmond food and was pleasantly surprised when i found anything edible. and i'm still limited by a plain old meat, pasta, pizza, some seafood guy. he won't go to millie's with me. and he didn't like the looks of comfort either so i've been very "rate-limited"! of the places i've been, i still stand by the fact that the special scallops or something i had at sam miller's were nice. and he and his mother - not at all chowish - were very happy. :)
oh and thanks for the frank's west tip. it's very close and we like it a lot better than many things out this way.

Would he go to Edo's Squid. They have great pasta, steak and veal. Hubby and I often share the veal marsala and the spaghetti carbonara.

Definitely Comfort. There's Croaker’s Spot on Leigh which has the best soul food. Europa in Shockoe Bottom has great tapas. Zuppa on 18th is more casual but the food is amazing.

I second those Comfort, Millie's and Croaker's Spot spot suggestions. I'd avoid the Hardshell - if you are looking for good fresh seafood go to Six Burner, which is in a Richmond neighborhood called the Fan, just due west of your location. Very close is Cafe Rustica is on East Main between 4th and 5th Streets. It's a great little breakfast and lunch spot that just opened. The food is very fresh and very reasonable.
There are two cool pubs close to your location - Penny Lane (British Style) and Capital Ale House. For more info on what's going on this weekend, check Style Weekly.com. It's Richmond's independent weekly, updated every Wednesday.

I'm gonna be in Richmond this Saturday around 11:00 am or so ... I checked out Comfort's site, but it looks like they aren't open on Saturdays for lunch?!
Anyone have a "must-go" recommendation for a place to have breakfast/lunch before a long day of driving?
I've checked out Millie's site and that looks like it could do the trick ...
