Need your help in finding great ceviche spots down here. I have tried Salmon Salmon (good but pricey), Francesco's (ditto and pricier). Thanks for your knowledge.

Ty Net,

Ceviche started out as a cheap dish where you "preserved" fish toi extend your catch for another day. I guess modern rents and overheads require making it expensive. But in caribe and south America still considered moderate food. Jaguar is the one in the Grove? If so, I guess it cost as much as Gables right? I'm surprised that with our locale there is not a "cheaper" but still good ceviche alternative, much like La Camaronera for fried shrimp and fish. TY again for suggestion.

The name is actually Goyo el Pollo. Not sure why the link comes up as Gollo. Regardless, I'm not sure what Goyo means en ingles. I couldn't find a menu online but I did find an old review that mentions some of their dishes.

In Ecuador and Peru, ceviche isn't exactly cheap but I never really considered it to be expensive either as the dollar goes pretty far in Ecuador....in Peru I wasn't paying so I don't recall the cost....But I've paid for ceviche all over the country of Ecuador and it really depended on where I was eating it....At Hotel Oro Verde in Quito...it's quite expensive...At a local corner restaurant in Quito it was cheap.....Either way...very good!....The one thing that freaked me out was the first time I had ceviche in Ecuador they served it with popcorn...and I'm like....ceviche and popcorn?....how does this work?....But it does work well together....But here in the states...like another contributor wrote...good ceviche ain't cheap!

I think the chefs utilize the best they got for their ceviche...at least I hope they do!

I am very leary of lowering my ceviche standards on account of the food poisoning I once contracted by eating raw clams...it's not worth saving the extra 3-5 bux.

I got a very expensive Marlin Ceviche the other night at VIx and it was hardly as good as any of the aformentioned places I love...Salmon, Francesco's or Jaguar for that matter.

I am sure you can find cheaper ceviche at any of the low end Peruvian places around town. Whether they are any good is another story...one I prefer you tell before I try!

I like Peruvian Tiraditios(simply marinated cerviche) I've had some very good conch and tuna tiraditos and a great cobia dish at Kaiyo in Islamorada. There is a Peruvian waiter and he suggested the Tiraditos. The sushi chef just squeesed key lime juice and garnished w/ peruvian pepper jam. some fresh chopped herbs....so good over the cobia. The tuna and conch dishes had a simple mojo w/ some passionfruit. delicious
