Buddah's Hand at Santa Rosa Farmer's Market

For those intrepid cooks and/or people who like to play around with infusing alcohol *giggle*, there is Buddah's Hand citron to be found at the Saturday Santa Rosa Farmer's market, held in the parking lot of the Vet's Building. I didn't get the name of the vendor/farm who sells it, except to find out that the citrus itself came from Fresno. The stand sells a lot of citrus fruit and things like pomegranites and persimmons, and is located at the north/eastern end of the market, across the aisle from the taco truck and coffee & espresso truck. They are selling it for $15 a pound, and had two very nice bright yellow ones left at the end of the market when I stopped by to pick one up. The one I picked out came to about $9, and is the size of a very large pear. The woman behind the table said that they should have some next week as well. I'm not sure if they sell at the Wednesday morning farmer's market.

Here's the wikipedia description of this nifty citrus, if you are curious: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddha's_hand

And here is the link to a search for it on Chowhound, including some recipe ideas from the Home Cooking board: http://www.chow.com/search?page=1&...

I'm thinking I might try making a little candied BH to put on top of sugar cookies when I start my holiday cookie baking.

They are available at the Berkeley Bowl, pretty much all the time.
