A white bloom on dried black mission figs (organic): is it mold?

bella_sarda Dec 8, 2007 11:42 AM

Just bought some organic dried mission figs from Whole Foods. Some of the figs have a white "bloom" on them that looks like white lichen or some kind of mold, or even like crystallized sugar. The figs taste fine. Should I be concerned?

It's probably crystallized sugars, safe and normal for dried figs.

I seem to have a similar issue with my dried figs, which I would regret wasting. How did those questionable figs work out for you in 2007, if you don't mind me asking?

I've often had older dried figs get a bloom like that, and it's not mold, and they're fine.

I'm pretty sure those figs never made me ill. So eat up!
