New "steak place" UWS

  • 5

I just don't like calling this place a "steak place" but I think that is the showcase.

la rural (bistro argentino)
768 Amsterdam ave (between 97 and 98th)
Look hard or you'll miss it.

If you are in the area this is definitely worth checking out. Went last night and it was really good. Also, they are BYOB until they get their liquor license which is very advantageous.

Meat ranges $15 - $30 - medium rare perfection
also had a grilled vegetables plate for $15 that was solid
Salads and appetizers ~$10 - try one of the Empanadas, although they aren't terribly large, they are delicious.
Sides $5 - had some mix of potatoes and vegetables that wasn't very good so I would steer clear of that but there are many other choices

  1. Is this where the other Argentine restaurant used to be? Pampas maybe?

Yes, it is the space where Pampa was, a very narrow frontage on the west side of Amsterdam (just south of the x-treme clean laundry).

Thanks - good to know - we'd been disappointed on our last two visits to Pampa.

      1. Thanks for the info and will have to try out the new place in the nab.

        1. I think the same people who run Cafe Frida (77th and Amsterdam) run La Rural as well.
