foodie-"inn" the south east

Me and my SO are eloping in January, and are looking for a romantic Inn with great food in the SE. Are definitely considering the Blackberry Farm, but need some other ideas. NC, Tenn, Va, SC....anywhere w/in driving distance of asheville.

  1. Though I haven't tried it myself, I've heard good things about the Mast Farm Inn & Restaurant in Valle Crucis, NC. Congrats!!

    1. The Woodlands Inn in Summerville, SC has gotten perfect 100s from the Conde Naste Traveler's Gold List. It is also very close to Charleston which has amazing food.

Also, The Wentworth Mansion downtown Charleston is stunning and has one of the best restaurants in town, Circa 1886. It was ranked #6 on America's Top 100 hotels.

I second the recommendation for Woodlands in Summerville. Most classically-polished service and mannerisms I've ever encountered in this country (not just in the dining room, but throughout the entire inn). It's perhaps my favorite restaurant in the country in its own right, notwithstanding the fact that it's one of the most highly-regarded inns around.

HINT: Woodlands has a chef's tasting menu demonstration the first Tuesday of every month. You spend the night at the inn at a greatly discounted rate ($125!!!) if you attend the demonstration and have dinner there. Outrageous deal for a 5-star Mobil hotel and restaurant: Chef Tarver King is destined for greatness, so definitely take advantage before he scoots off to NYC, San Francisco, or something.

      2. The lodge at Little St Simons Is. In Ga.
