Do a search under Malibu and you'll find tons of threads on every place there.

Here is just one of them:

Geoffrey's in Malibu is very romantic and waterfront. Might be a little pretentious and expensive for some but hey, that's Malibu for you.

This is where I proposed to my ex-wife. Good and bad memories :-)

        Saddle Peak Lodge.

You might want to give serious consideration to the newly opened Terra. Here is a previous review from the LA board: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/457273 and it also had an excellent review in the LA Times which called it romantic and praised the food as well.

I also notice this review from EaterLA: http://la.eater.com/archives/2007/09/...

Either Geoffrey's or Saddle Peak will be great. Very different vibes; the former is more understated elegance (at least, by L.A. standards) with lovely patio seating; the latter is spectacular in-your-face frontier Americana yet they pull it off amazingly. Both have great food.

I think the food is better and more interesting at Saddle Peak, but the view from the patio at Geoffrey's on a nice warm day is lovely. I guess my decision would rest on whether I was looking for lunch or dinner and the weather.

inn of the seventh ray (malibu adjacent in topanga) is the most romantic place around there, plus the food is good - so you get atmosphere and food. the food is MUCH better than geoffrey's which i think is just ok - but really overpriced and also only good on warm days if you get a good table. otherwise, it's a total waste of time.

also - moonshadows is really nice if you sit on the patio outside. the food, again, is not spectacular, but the environment is nice.
