Westside bacon hotdogs

On the side street next to the parking lot behind B & B Hardware on Washington Blvd, one block west of Centinela, there is a vendor selling bacon-wrapped hotdogs with grilled onions. He said he's there every day from 11:30 to 6:00 pm (I think that's what he said - either that or 11 to 6:30.)

The hotdogs are $3, come with grilled onions, ketchup, mustard & mayo. A guy waiting in line said sometimes the vendor throws on avocado, but I didn't get offered that, nor did I ask for it.

The setup is basically a foil covered cookie sheet sitting on a sterno can. The vendor cooks 1-2 dogs at a time in the middle of the sheet with a few more waiting on the edge for their turn on the flame. On the side, onions fry in the oil generated from the hotdogs and bacon.

He also has soda & chips. Behind him is a vendor selling cut fruit.

BTW, side note, I noticed there's a hole-in-the-wall place on Washington a couple doors east of B & B, closer to Centinela that says Tacos Estilo Mexico - any good?

  1. I personally LOVE TEM. They have the best sopes on the west side. Fresh, soft and so good... Try the Cabeza... real true meaty funkiness...

As for the hot dog vendor at B&Bs, yeah, I've seen him. I much perfer the guys who show up at St. Gerards on Inglewood and Culver after Sunday Mass (And if you are lucky, they church ladies are selling their own EXCELLEN tamales. :))

    1. I went to B & B's for the first time in memory the other day and there really is a little neighborhood bazaar-type row of vendors out back, along with some super specials from the hardware store (those curly-cue light bulbs that are supposed to be so energy-saving and last so long for just 99-cents). But gotta say, if I'm that close to Taqueria Sanchez just a few blocks south on Centinela, I'm going there to get a shrimp taco, and maybe a carnitas and al pastor as well.

Thanks "mungus," I was there Saturday and since I'd never eaten one of these bacon wrapped dogs I was anxious to try. I did enjoy it and he also had the Mexican Pepsi in 500ml bottles. The disturbing part was the paper CA redemption tag said something like high fructose corn syrup and/or sucrose. The bottles I think are $2. He did offer me guacamole in addition to the other choices of condiments and it was pretty good.

Anybody know what happened to "Pablo"? the guy selling those bacon wrapped dogs by the B&B Hardware? I've gone by several times on Sunday afternoons recently and no sign of him or the guy that sold the produce that was sort of his neighbor at the spot. It's a bit of a drive for me so the frustration is bad and my cholesterol levels are dropping...

Whew....last Friday I had to take my mom to the doctor and heading back south on Centinela I spotted the umbrella of "Pablo's" hot dog cart. I was asking him why I seem to miss him and one of the 2 B&B hardware guys standing there laughed and one said, "He's probably already sold out and left those days." He must be doing a brisk business then. Anyway...grabbed a bacon-wrapped hot dog with everything (including that chunky avocado mix) and Mexican Pepsi. Went down early on Saturday and redid the exercise.
