Hello Hello

I have a date tonight and it is the 11th hour... Any place in the city that will not be too stuffy and or busy with a fireplace for drinks?

Is Salem too far? If not, then head to the Hawthorne Hotel in downtown Salem. There is a bar/restaurant off the lobby called the Tavern. Nice fireplace with a couch (I think) in front.
      Enjoy.

The Hardcover is easy to drive to - Rte. 1 North.... another place I thought of is The Fireplace, 1634 Beacon St., Brookline.

Not sure which of these places will have their fireplaces going tonight, but...

Christopher's in Cambridge has a fireplace in the restaurant area.
Clery's in the South End has one, too.
I think the Fox and Hound in Quincy has one, but don't quote me on that.

            Have fun, wherever you go!

There's an article in today's Metro also listing the Bristol, Intercontinental, Upstairs on the Sq and Met Club.

the Metropolitan on Rt. 9 in Chestnut Hill has a nice cozy little fireplace next to the bar with a couple of small tables right there. Food is great and drinks are nice too.

Sorry it's too late for your date, but West on Center in West Roxbury has a dine-in bar with comfortable seating, big fireplace, and excellent food (when last I tried it).

This also won't work for your date, but if you find yourselves in the southwestern suburbs, Chiara in Westwood has a nice fireplace, and a relatively new bar menu in addition to its dinner and brunch menus.

Also, too late for your date, but the Red House in Harvard Square has a lovely fireplace.

Yes, West on Centre in West Roxbury has a fireplace in the bar side. Atmosphere is nice.

I wouldn't eat the food though. Waiter shrugged his shoulder when I showed him the mold on the bread and gave an attitude that it was OK. No apology. Waiter didn't seemed the least bit concerned.

I wrote to the owners and never got a reply. I can only assume they think it is OK to serve moldy food. Nice place for a drink. Don't eat there, unless you like mold.

That's terribly disappointing! The food used to be wonderful there.

Don't know if they still have it, but Dali used to have a wood stove in one of the dining rooms that put out a wonderful warmth. Not a fireplace but lovely.
