beer of the month

I was looking for a good beer of the month club for some gifts, I have never heard of any of them so I was wondering someone could give me a suggestion of which one to use. I want a three month "subscription" because I have a budget of $100 per gift.

Thanks so much!
Keri

I consider myself to be something of a beer expert and I have joined several of these clubs from over the years.

My favorite is the beer of the month club from Amazing Clubs:

In general, I have found their selections to be very creative and I have been pleasantly surprised that their monthly shipments to me have contained several national award-winning micro-brews. I have also had good customer service experiences with them and their prices are quite good. As a bonus, I believe they ship to all 50 states. Their shipments do require a signature but that is the case with all beer of the month clubs.

Thanks for the recommendation. Can you give some examples of some of the beers you've received from them? Thanks!

Thanks guys, I didn't even think of the state issue, I thought the supreme court took care of all that.

I used to subscribe to Michael Jackson's World Beer Tour club. I was in the microbrew club for a while then switched to the Belgian club. I really enjoyed the selections and you also build up beer bucks for future purchases through their online store. It's been a few years since I belonged, so I am not sure what the deal is now.

I agree that it will depend on the state to which you are shipping. Some states don't allow it at all. And the idea of a liquor store certificate may not work either (here in NY liquor stores do not sell beer, e.g.). So check your options before you proceed, basically.

But, to the original question ... DH just received a beer of the month thing as a gift. We have gotten 2 shipments so far. They come with 12 beers (3 each of 4 kinds) in each box. The vendor is someplace called Malt of The Earth (I have no idea what this costs as we've been the recipients). It says it is "Microbrewed Beer of the Month" club. I can tell you our opinions thus far:
--most of the beers have been ones that we wouldn't have purchased for ourselves (this is good, making us try new things)
--so far of the ones we've tasted, there have only been 2 kinds that we really didn't like (also good, since who wants wasted beer)
--the selections have been quite varied in terms of provenance: brazil, belgium, france, the us, etc.
--each month's box comes with a newsletter which details the brewery and the particular brew for each of the selections. it's very informative and quite a fun read.
--the only down side (for practical purposes) is that someone must be home to receive and SIGN for the box (over 21 only, obviously). so if your giftee works, you may want to figure out an alternative shipping address or some such thing. that's kind of a pain but i guess i understand why they have to do it that way.

Edited to Add: I also think they try to be a bit seasonal. In the December shipment we received at least 2 Christmas beers. So maybe they'll do the same for the summer/etc. ones too.

Cool! They also have a cigar and a chocolate club.

Well, I had to sign but I didn't have to show any ID. I guess I no longer look younger than 21. LOL! :)

In many states it's actually illegal for individuals to receive alcoholic beverages in the mail, which will seriously curtail your options for a beer-of-the-month club.

Depending on where you (and your giftees) live, there may be an exceptionally good liquor store with an amazing beer selection that sells gift cards. It's not the same as getting a surprise every month, but the recipient of the card can at least exert some control over which beers they get to taste. Another option would be Cost Plus World Imports. In most places, they have a beers of the world promotion - gift boxes of beers. They, too, have gift cards, and encourage a mix-and-match approach to buying sixes of beer.

www.worldmarket.com and click on the wine button.

              Good luck!
