I'm visiting Redding to see the Sundial Bridge and wanted to get a good meal at the end of the day. Any suggestions?

My current Redding favorite is a Thai restaurant called Racha Noodle. It's a complete hole in the wall, ambiance-wise, but the food is consistently good. Racha is in a hard to find location - It's almost located behind a hill on South Market St. Try to find it and I hope you will like it. They also serve Pho which is usually a huge red flag in terms of mixing styles of cuisine. While not the best I've ever eaten (can't compare to Turtle Tower in SF) the Pho and other soups are good. Racha Noodle is owned and run by 5 sisters who are sticklers for cleanliness. I was amazed at how the little sauce and pepper pots on the table were gleaming. We've tried all the curries, the vegetarian dishes, the Pho and a few other specials. We've always been happy. What we've liked least? Probably they chicken Pho. Everything else has been good. I used to like Nipas for Thai in Redding, but they have really changed over the past year. I'm no longer impressed.

If you're more in the mood for Mexican I would recommend the Fat Burrito located about 2 blocks east of I-5 on Cypress. They used to be called Mi Pueblito, but changed their name for some reason. It's a nice family run place and their carnitas huarache is outstanding. Their tacos are truly mexican style -small soft corn tortillas with meat, white onion and cilantro. Yummy.

Good luck! If your travels allow, I would recommend viewing the Sundial both in the daylight and at night. It's spectacular and very different looking each way.

Here is a link to some reviews and a map for Racha Noodle.

i highly recommend "moonstone bistro" located at the top of placer st (buenaventura cross st). not only is the atmosphere fun and urban, but the food is out of this world! they use local perveyors and change the menu about every 2 weeks. i appreciate the freshness and fantastic flavors presented with every dish...it's the gourmet gloriousness of the city! i can honestly say i had "the best" sandwich of my life there. the BLT consisted of prosciutto, fried green tomatoes, and butterhead lettuce on a fresh baked scallion roll. it also included a HUGE portion of fresh fried okra. a true delight for only $13.95 which i couldn't finish myself! and the best part is you can sit at the "bar" and watch the chefs prepare your food in the open kitchen. i support moonstone bistro in their quest for fresh local food and hope everyone else does as well...enjoy your time in redding!

I think Moonstone is over rated. Sure, it's probably good for Redding, but when you have access to good restaurants in other venues (as someone visiting from out of town would) it doesn't cut it. We went when they first opened and our waiter didn't even know how to open the wine! I'm not willing to pay anything for that kind of service when my DH can cook any of the same at home. Sorry, I don't agree.
