Want to go to Rolf's but........

javaandjazz Dec 5, 2007 01:19 PM

the latest reviews that I am reading on the net are pretty bad. Is it worth it? Are there any other restaurants decorated like that for the holidays? What the story...new owners? Thanks, Richie

You really just want to go to see all the decor, so I would recommend going and grabbing a drink at the bar either early on Friday or Satursday night or one a week night and NOT eating there.

Thanks! Anywhere else to go with a similar atmosphere for dinner then? Rich

I agree with coleyas -- the food is awful. If you want German, go to the nearby Silver Swan which is much better and a bit less expensive. Then for your Christmas fix you can walk over to Lord and Taylor, where at night you'll have the windows pretty much to yourself.

Second Silver Swan-great wiener schnitzel and great beer selection

I went last Tuesday night at 7:30 and it was pretty packed. It got a lot less crowded at around 8:30 - we got seats at the bar for drinks - no food. Definitely a fun stop during the holidays just for the decor...

Even though Rolf's is in our nabe, we've never gone there because the consensus has always been that the food's barely mediocre. Could be there's new ownership since, recently, they changed their signage to read "French and Bavarian" cuisine. French and Alsacian might make some sense. But Bavarian? Very strange!
