Umai - Memphis

Had dinner at Umai the other night and had the best sushi that I've had in Memphis. I haven't seen the place mentioned in any of the sushi posts (actually, I think they just added sushi to the menu) so I thought I'd recommend it. The service was great. The room, however, leaves something to be desired. Turns out I agree with Koeppel on this one - he gave a great write up on the CA Whining and Dining blog recently.

I happen to be Mooing's wife, and I can second his appraisal of Umai. The service and food were divine. I can't wait to go back. I also thought the wine list was incredibly reasonable.

Went last night and it was excellent! Had the "surf-n-turf", tuna and steak tataki. Tuna served on the best ric eI have had for a while, and the steak was served atop pickled onions, delicious. My main was the flounder en papillote, and the wife had venison served with a hearty sauce and puff pastry. Finished with apple-mango pie. Loved the decor and the small dining area.

Afterwards, we went to Blue Fish for 1/2 doz Hottenannys, 1/2 doz Apalachicolas, and 2 doz Gulf oysters. Finished the evening with a great port. All in all, a fine evening!
