Can you get a gourmet, inventive, "high-cuisine" experience for breakfast anywhere in the city?
While it may not score points for inventiveness, I believe that Balthazar has perhaps the best upscale breakfast in the city. Also, as the usual crowd is still in bed during traditional breakfast hours, you can get in without a great deal of effort.
Le Parker Meridian's "Norma's" Brunch/Breakfast buffet on wknds is supposed to be good.
Hrm. I've been there, and it's decent, but nothing particularly special, I thought.
Ditto -- although the OJ and smoothies are very good, the entrees are mediocre, particularly for the prices they charge.
For inventiveness, I don't think you can top Shopsin's.
