This is apparently a craze that started in San Diego and has reached L.A. I wonder how long before we have it available here. Sounds so fatteningly good.

Sounds like a Cal-Mex answer to poutine.

I see wiki has already made that connection

I have had the pleasure/pain of gorging on carne asada fries during stints in San Diego. It is essentially like a ton of nacho toppings & chopped up carne asada on top of fries. Tastes like Mexican chilli cheese fries, or a really delicous heart attack.

I've tried to ask Mexican restaurants in Seattle if they could make carne asada fries (by replaicng the chips of an order of carne asada nachoes with fries), but have for the most part only recieved puzzled looks in return. Hopefully, the PNW will soon have its own purveyors of this fine treat...

I recall from when I lived in Chicago, that 'milanesa', breaded steak (Mexican schnitzel), was always served with fries. But I'm not sure if the taquerias around here even make fries.

Milanesa is the national food of Argentina (or close to it, anyway), and is almost always served with fries. That is very traditional, but not neccisarily Mexican.

A friend of mine from San Diego was always raving about the "California Burrito" which is basically a burrito with french fries warpped up with everything else. Sort of along the same lines as the carne asada fries.
