Looking for some Good Cajun
My family's coming into town this week and not everyone can make it so I wanted to send a cooler of food back. I'm looking for a store in the New Orleans or surrounding area where I can get good Cajun food (i.e. boudin, andouille, tasso, etc.). There's SOOO much out there in just the grocery stores alone that I'm completely stumped.

LaPlace is definitely the bomb for Cajun smoked meats and it's really not that far to travel if you're on a mission. But there are some good substitutes closer to home.
Creole Country in Mid-City (David Street, across Carrollton from the Home Depot and kind of hidden) is mostly a restaurant supplier but you can ring the bell and buy direct. Their andouille, boudin, crawfish sausage and alligator sausage are all great.
Also, in Gretna there's Gourmet Butcher Block, which even does turduckens if you're so inclined and has boudin, etc. You'll have to google the address for that one. -
You could ride out to LaPlace and go to Jacob's and/or Bailey's and get some mighty fine tasso, andouille, and some other stuff. Really good!
