Vik's to go??

I'm having Vik's for dinner tonight, and I'd like to buy it and bring it home for dinner. My favorite is the Bhatura Cholle but I've found from recent trials that when its deflated and wrapped up in foil, it's just not as good. No big surprise there!
So any suggestions on what will travel the best?
Also I'm planning on getting two items - right now im choosing between the Dhokla, the Chicken Kathi Kabab, and the Pakori Chaat. I rarely venture outside of the batura cholle and samosas so recomendations are appreciated!

Too late for tonight, but: The dhokla travel well, so definitely get that. Another good option if they have it is the pav bhaji. Someone complained recently about the pavs (the bread the bhaji stew is served with) being just like hamburger buns. Hate to break it to you, but whenever my gujarati relatives serve home-made pav bhaji its always with hot dog or hamburger buns as the bread...(had some when I was visiting them last week in Florida. Delicious!). Also, you might try the bhel puri. Ask if they can put the sauce in a separate container so it will be a little less soggy. Only the pav bhaji requires heating (a microwave would do). The other two dishes I mentioned are usually served room temperature anyway.

That was I. Vik's uses French rolls, like you'd get with a standard American sandwich. The places in Fremont where I've had pav bhaji have these lovely Parker House-like rolls that are so much more delicious. A friend who does catering makes her own rolls when she serves pav bhaji that she says are the same as you'd get on the streets of Bombay. I'm sorry to hear that your relatives use hamburger buns . . . maybe they don't have any better alternatives where they live. There is better available here.

but you miss my point, Melanie: I LIKE the hamburger buns (actually they are usually hot dog buns....). pan toasted with butter and served with pav bhaji. I think the soft, almost gooey bread just soaks up those juices perfectly and is delicious. I have no idea what they serve on the streets of Mumbai; the one time I was there I was with relatives who wouldn't try any street food..... My husband likes sour-dough bread with his pav bhaji...but that is definitely a California-style adaptation......

I absolutely LOATHE balloon bread hot dog and hamburger buns, especially the icky texture when they get wet, soggy and taste even more chemically. I refuse to put stuff like that in my body. Made myself nuts Memorial Day trying to find a good alternative for the grill masters . . . guess I should post the results of the hot dog bun hunt.

Yeah, so far I have to give a second thumbs up for Acme hamburger buns, even better than the real hamburger buns ... ok, I like balloon bread hamburger buns ... with sesame seeds ... and chemical preservatives ... somethings just don't taste as well for the whole package even with substandard parts. I like my burger traditional ... don't put it on sourdough, don't put it on a baquette ... put it on the traditional bun.
However, that Acme bun is the exception. A great improvement on ballon bread bun without ruining the spirit of the burger.
