Morning did a Free walking tour of Soma/Yerba Buena Center (www.sfcityguides.org) It was very short about 1hr and only 3-4 blocks walking and saw a few new things.

Then walked to Canteen, 817 Sutter (between Leavenworth & Jones St). Sat brunch 8a-2pm. We had oj, latte, egg benedict, housemade special corned beef. Everything was good. $26.80 after tax before tip. They take credit card.

Stopped at Teuscher Chocolates of Switzerland, 307 Sutter St. 415-834-0850 for champagne truffles. about $1.85 each piece. Recommended.

Beard Papa, 99 Yerba Buena Lane on Mission Street
between 3rd & 4th Streets. Tried chocolate cream puff. Still just ok. $1.95 (20c more than vanilla
)
Biggest surprise walking into Diptyque, 171 Maiden Ln, SF 415-402-0600 and finding they have 25% off Mariage Freres Tea from Paris. Regular price $16, on sale for $12!! The sale started last night 6/9/06 and will end when either end of month or when they run out!! The are already out of Marco Polo black tea (best seller) and La Route du Temps.

Ones I got: The Sur Le Nil-Tea on the Nile-fruity & lemony green tea in a container; and Ruschika-Russian afternoon blend.

Onces I got in teabag form: Esprit de Noel-Festive blend of tea & sweet spices; Eros-flowery afternoon blend; Bouddha Bleu-Green tea w/ fragrances of ripe fruits.

Total damage: $60 for tea! evil sale. :-)

    Thanks so much for the tip! A friend brought me some Mariage Freres Breakfast tea as a hostess gift and I'm hooked!

      Picked up 4 packets today. $12 each, the flavors are limited to Earl Grey, Darjeeling, Eros, Sultane and a bunch of green tea variants.Very few canisters left, mostly teabags. Starting today, they put teapots, jellies and tea accessories on sale for 50% off.

      Just found out that Diptyque no longer carries Mariage Freres teas, probably right after the sale they had June 2006. Too bad.

      William Sonoma still carries them and heard Pasta Shop in Berkeley has them.

        Amazingly, the East Bay has more options for Mariage Freres teas. There is a big selection at the Pasta Shop on Fourth Street but you can also find a nice selection at the deli store inside Market Hall at Rockridge. My favorite: Casablanca. I just love the name!

          The Gardner on 4th Street in Berkeley also has Mariage Freres. I like the Ruschka, Wedding Imperial and Eros.

          That's also the Pasta Shop in Rockridge.

            Really? That's funny. I never pay any attention to the name. I just think of it as the deli inside Market Hall because I never really notice a sign. But thanks for the correction! :)
