hollywood
we are a family of 4 (kids are 12 and 8) and will be staying at the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa in Hollywood. We are a bit tired of "cheesecake factory" (a chain that we dont have in Canada).
Looking for a reasonable sushi place or a restaurant that serves good veggie burgers, or a good pizza joint.
Look forward to hearing from fellow chowhounds.
Thanks in advance.

Just back from Hollywood... thanks for the suggestions!
Goyo El Pollo was wonderful - we even stopped there a second time on the way to the airport. We enjoyed Padrino's, but we've had better Cuban cuisine elsewhere. Maybe we should have driven down to Miami for that. I got my Stone Crab fix at Billy's, and my wife had some delicious Blackened Grouper there. We also enjoyed Argentango on Young Circle. The Entraña was delicious, and their Empanada was memorable as well.
We also loved hanging out at Paciugo Gelato, sitting on couches amongst cool artwork, eating their delicious Gelato while 80's music videos played :-).
The only downer we had was lunch at Taverna Yiamas.Attached: Goyo El Pollo Food Porn

We'll be spending a few days at the Diplomat as well in a couple of weeks. We're adventurous eaters - what's good and interesting? We're particularly interested in sampling the latino offerings. We'd be willing to drive a bit for something good. Are there any good Cuban and Peruvian places nearby?

re: cranrob
Cran, there is a small casual Peruvian place in downtown Hollywood (close to hotel) that has great ceviche. It's one block north of Hollywood Blvd. on Tyler St called Goyo El Pollo.
There is a Cuban place just south of the hotel on Hallandale Beach blvd called Padrino's.Since you are adventurous and willing to travel, I would recommend driving about 15 minutes south to Yakko-San. Great Japanese tapas place. Do a quick search on the site for more detailed info reg dish recs.
If you like Greek food you can hit Opa one night. Fun casual place very close to the hotel.
If you are looking for a raw bar/fish shack head north to Tark's (5 minutes)
Grab a cold one and some steamed little necks-----

The best Veggie Burger in the area is at Houston's. It's a chain but I don't think they are in Canada.
http://www.hillstone.com/For pizza near the hotel you have a couple of options. There is a Piola Pizza down the block. They serve thin crust pizza. The pizza is ok but they have a ton of options and it's a good spot to take the kids.
http://www.piola.it/piola.phpThere is a good sushi place next to Piola called Siam Oishi
http://www.siamoishi.com/In Downtown Hollywood, I would recommend Nakorn, Sushi Room or Sushi Blues.
Additional Pizza options are Angelo's Corner on the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk. Good NY style Pizza plus it is on the beach. Good spot for the kids.
http://www.gshistoriccourts.org/angelo's.htmFor chicago style deep dish pizza check out Capone's Flicker Lite Pizza and Raw Bar. It's on the intercoastal in Hollywood (2 minutes from the hotel) Pizza outside on the water....
Don't forget to stop at Le Tub for a burger.
Another Pizza option is Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza. Get the wings.
http://www.anthonyscoalfiredpizza.com/There is a pizza Rustica in Downtown Hollywood but it is not as good as the South Beach location(s). They don't know how to make the pizza... skip it.
