Husband's 40th birthday! Need fun food gift ideas
My husband is turning 40 on Dec 25. It is going to be very difficult to plan a celebration (lots of friends away, we have 3 small kids, etc) so I decided that we'll celebrate for 41 days-- 20 days before and after plus his actual birthday for "good luck". I want to have something fun for each of the days.
I already ordered a giant fortune cookie and peanuts from Hubbards. I am thinking about ordering Chicago pizza. I just want to have something fun/special every day
On the non food side, I have ordered personalized t shirts & balloons and we have some activities planned.
We live in Los Angeles.
Please give me more chowish ideas!

If he likes chocolate, the absolute BEST chocolates in the world are from John and Kiras. www.johnandkiras.com They are absolute heaven.

You could have a movie night with retro movies and order candy from http://www.oldtimecandy.com/enter.htm. I am sure they have some childhood faves like Zots and such. It would be a fun blast from the past.

I don't know if you are into sushi, but my favorite birthday dish that I request whenever I'm in Japan is a temaki party-- basically, make-your-own sushi!! You need nori, some sushi rice, and ingredients, which, if you live in LA, you should be able to get. For the veggies, I usually get cucumbers, sprouts, avocado, shiso, lettuce if you want. I make the tamago, cut into thin strips, and then get whatever fish you want (2 or 3 kinds should be plenty; perhaps even too much, so get very small quantities). You cut the fish into thin strips.
The seaweed you cut either in half or quarters (from the big sheet), and then you serve the rice in a big dish in the middle along with the ingredients.
It's really simple prep and you can eat sushi to your heart's content!
Pizza on a grill is always fun, too. (Or heck, pizza in the oven.)

If the kids aren't into "real" (i.e., fish) sushi, you can also make candy sushi. If you google "candy sushi" you'll get a ton of results back; here's just one that i found.

I will freely admit an addiction to Krispy Kreme donuts - if you buy a dozen, they make a great little "cake" when you stack them and put a candle on top. I also love those huge caramel/chocolate/etc. dipped apples from places like the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Company. I also like the "decade" candies at www.hometownfavorites.com.
Sounds like you've planned lots of good stuff to share with the family. Have fun!
