Vail - special, casual and just plain good?
We'll be heading to Vail in January and wanted to make reservations ahead of time (and places where reservations aren't necessary I just wanted to dream about them ahead of time). We'll be staying on the mountain and will have a car, but I think would prefer to stay within a 10 minute drive of town. We'll be there for 6 nights (and will be skiing so only need dinner rec's). Can you recommend a special not to miss place, a few casual spots and anything just plain good that you love? After searching the board I found ddavis' great rec's for Larkspur and Grouse Mountain Grill...any more suggestions would be great. Also, any ideas for a great place to have venison/game?
Terra bistro is a must-great atmosphere, food.La Bottega is excellent for rustic italian. Will be going to Kelly Liken next trip-heard great things about it. Enjoy!
My absolute favorite is Dish in Edwards and it's worth the 10-15 minute drive. Here's a link to the thread where I reviewed my first visit. There have been two more since then and just planned another for March (although there will probably be more before then)
I've also enjoyed Up the Creek, Pepi's and Blu's in Vail Village. I haven't made it to Larkspur or Sweet Basil yet but they are on my to try list.
Please allow me to make a couple more recommendations. Casual and just plain good calls to mind Restaurant Ti Amo. It's four or five miles west of Vail in the area called Eagle-Vail. It's a family-owned casual Italian place that is warm, welcoming, and just plain good food. Check it out at www.tiamovail.com.
Once upon a time Pepe's Restaurant, right in the center of Vail, had a good game menu in their Antlers Room. I haven't been there in years, but you might ask if anyone has any recent experience there.
Please post your experiences when you get home. We would love to know your thoughts about the restaurants you check out.
