Best Sushi mid/up town?

Hi everyone!

Just wondering, what is the best sushi (under $60) I can get between 52nd to 62nd, between 3rd and 9th Ave?

If you can stretch your borders just a wee bit, Shimizu (51st near 8th) ranks among the better places in NYC and is doable for under $60 without too much contortion. Shimizu san is also a really nice guy--of the mellow, introverted, non-aggrandizing sort.

I used to love Shimizu but haven't been back for a while (too many other sushi places to try). Is it as good as it ever was?

Went there last Wednesday for a few pieces (uni, chu-toro, engawa, kohada, black cod - love the black cod) and it was as delicious as always.

I don't know what time frame you're comparing it to, but the omikase has been consistently good in the past year and a half.
