Pho Thanh Lich, no question.

I'll second that.

golden deli and pho 79 (alhambra)...
Golden Deli is my favorite place for pho too. If I don't feel like driving over there and waiting in line I end up at Vietnam Kitchen in Arcadia. Not the best pho-but convenient

In SGV, Pho 79 (Alhambra)
In SFV, Pho So 1 (Reseda)
In Little Saigon, Pho Thanh Lich.
Of all of them, I like Pho Thanh Lich the best, but like a lot of LA arguments, the difference in quality between PTL and P79 isn't worth the difference in distance.

which one is thanh lich?

It's on the SW corner of Brookhurst and Hazard. Same shopping center as Pagolac, if I recall correctly. But they're most well-known for using filet mignon in their pho tai and dac biet and other preparations calling for beef. Being the oddball that I am, I also like their pho ga (chicken).
In terms of which I would go to right this moment, it would still have to be Pho 79 in Alhambra, because I'm figuring distance from Hollywood into the equation. Once upon a time, though, my commute from Irvine back to Hollywood would include a nightly stop in Little Saigon.

pagolac? you mean the same plaza as stater brothers?
Yes, same plaza as Stater Brothers, but it is out by the corner, right under the traffic light.
Pho Thanh Lich is also my favorite, order the "tai" raw beef on the side and upgrade it to filet mignon for a few cents more, then put it into the hot soup yourself to cook it. It's delicious and yummy.

WAIT (if you're old enough...), you mean the former pizza hut?!?!?!
I never thought to eat pho there.

that would be the place, they also have a location in long beach on anaheim

I knew they had a location in long beach, but I didn't know about anaheim. Either way, what's the associated Thanh Lich location in the LBC? It might not be much, but I'll try and avoid heading into residual Crush traffic if I can at all do it.

It is on Anaheim St. Use to be Pho 54, but changed a bit ago to Tranh Lich. It is just west of Alamitos on the South side of the street.

Pho Superbowl (Alhambra).

I like Pho Super Bowl on Main Street, too. I usually get my super bowl pho with a Thai tea. Service is quick.
I also like Vietnam House, which is about 1 block east of Pho Super Bowl on the same side of Main Street/Las Tunas Dr.

Quan Hop. Good soup and high quality beef. It is on Brookhurst and McFadden.
Why just Pho? How about some Bun Bo Hue? Quan Hop also has pretty good Bun Bo Hue. BBH will knock your socks off on a cold day.

I like Noodle City on Valley in San Gabriel. Just wish it was closer to Hollywood.

I love the tai at noodle city though it is not on the side. And they have an A. Not only that but the service is lightning fast, though you do sometimes have to wait for a table.

The last three phos I've had in Alhambra have been incredibly bad: lots of gristle, weak broth, skimpy vegetables. I do like Pho 79; they have never let me down.

it would be helpful if you listed the names of the places that let you down in alhambra.

I don't drive far for Pho, so my local fav is Pho 2007 in Rowland Heights. A typical hole in the wall in a converted Taco Bell location. Rated C in the Health Department but doesn't seem to scare any one off. They have the best meltingly tender jello-like tendons.
I thought you mean the favorite combo when I read the original question. That would be #1 (everything), no cilantro.

Saigon Pho on Imperial Hwy. in La Mirada is pretty good. The other stuff on the menu is also good.

Vietnam Restaurant in San Gabriel. The pho broth is so delicious and the egg rolls are to die for too!!!

Pho Hoa...downtown LA. I think they have the best broth of any of the non-westminster places.
