New Italian Specialty Store in West Chester...?

Sometime during the last few weeks, I read a little blurb in the Inquirer about a new Italian specialty shop that had opened in West Chester. From the description, it sounded interesting enough that I thought I'd check it out, but I didn't clip the article and now I can't recall where it is, or the name of the establishment. My recollection is that it's right in town. Can anyone direct me to this spot? And, can anyone report on their own experiences there? Thanks.

  1. I think it may be Carlino's. There is one by me here in Ardmore (western Phila suburb). I saw in the store here that they had opened one in West Chester. Carlino's here is excellent. I googled the address:

    128 W. Market Street

and here is a link to their website: http://www.carlinosmarket.com/

      That's IT!! Thanks!

Carlinos is a great store. I stop at the one in Ardmore whenever I am out there for all types of takeout and cheese.

    2. I'll give you a short list of my favorites: fresh figs (when in season), Italian cheeses, mixed olive selection (it's pre-mixed), veal meatballs in sauce, harvest bread, tomato pie, calamari salad (very seldom found), fresh porchini mushrooms (again seldom found), gelato (my fav is pistachio), lasagna (get the half pan, cut into 4ths and freeze 3 of them separately – one 1/4 feeds the two of us with a salad on the side), most of their fresh salads and sides, imported pancetta, mortadella, veal scallopini, homemade Italian sausages, and many more ...

What I haven't like so much (and the list is short) is I've found some of their entrees can be dry – like the salmon, chicken parmesean. You just have to be careful and look at it when you order it.

I stopped into Carlino's this afternoon. What an unexpected treat! EXACTLY what the West Chester market scene needs. If I didn't know better, I'd swear I was in South Philly. An incredible selection of cheeses, meats, homemade sausage, prepared foods, oh-- breads (DO try those little garlic knobs!), and more, and more. I stopped in hoping to find bruschetta and pecorino fresca; I left with about $100 worth of yummy-looking stuff.

      2. As you've seen from the other posts, it is Carlino's. They've got alot of nice specialty items, cheeses, meats, breads, pastries, olive oil, etc. I was a little disappointed with the selection of balsamic vinegars - there were only 3 or 4 when I was there about 2 weeks ago. We picked up a wild green salad with goat cheese and cranberries. It was very good. But I'm not sure it was worth $13. Overall, the quality at this store is very good, its just a little on the expensive side.

I was pleased, for the most part, with the goodies I picked up at Carlino's on Saturday. The biggest disappointment was the bruschetta. It was lacking in seasoning. When I need bruschetta, I usually go to the place that used to be called Best of Italy on Rt. 1 in the Chadds Ford area. (I think it's called Capazzoli's, or something like that, now). So I added a little freshly chopped garlic, a bit of oregano and a little olive oil, and it was fine. I bought Carlino's olive oil and it's good. The cheeses I got were very good and so were the marinated artichokes. The bread was very good. I can't recall what else I had in my grocery bag. I'll definitely go back, but when I need bruschetta, I'll get it at Capazzoli's.

I must say the prices are ridiculous

          2. Cindy Its about 1/2 mile down on route one heading towards chadds ford on the painters crossing intersection. I just went to carlinos with my family and the food and everything was amazing. Some of the prices where pretty expensive but for specialty imported items there about the same as other places i go to.

Mush--If you carefully read CindyJ's posts above, you will see that she visited Carlino's on Dec 1.

I'm unclear about what you're referring to that's "about 1/2 mile down on Route 1..." Carlino's is in WC. Are you thinking about Capazzoli's (formerly Best of Italy)?

              2. Thats nice? I was just confirming where it was. And i really dont know what you are talking about.

                1. Ya sorry I ment Capazzoli's

                  1. Carlino's is exactly what we needed in the borough of WC. A walkable grocery spot with produce, cheeses, meats, grab n' go sandwiches, gourmet pizzas and prepared specialty foods. Yes, it is a little pricey but the quality and selection makes it worth the splurge once in awhile or for entertaining.

From reviews and friend's comments the catering is "iffy" with service and quality but the prepared foods and salads in the case are fantastic.

I forgot to add that they also have an impressive selection of breakfast foods... including breakfast pizzas, omelets and sandwiches. Good morning!

                    2. Sometimes I can hardly believe that we have something as wonderful as Carlino's right here in West Chester. I go CRAZY in that place. Their meats and cheeses are great. I also love their olive oil. Their breads are made right there. I don't think I've had anything from there that I haven't loved.
