Red House - Scottsdale, AZ
We have been in need of a decent inexpensive Chinese Take out place....today we found one.
I had been hearing good things from Friends about the Red House on Via Linda and 90th st. In the same parking lot as Andreoli.......
Today in the pouring rain...wanting some soup and noodles, I decided to give Red House a try.
I ordered the beef Chow Fun and Wonton soup...my SO ordered the cashew chicken w/ the egg drop soup. Most of the Lunch entrees are $5.25 all include choice of soup and choice of rice, brown, white or pork fried.
They offer a few lamb dishes on the menu that look interesting....one w/ Basil that I will try next visit!
The place was extremely busy....though it didn't hinder the service. Everything was up and ready within 10 minutes. It seems as if they have plenty of help...just not enough tables for the lunch crowd that was waiting.
The food was tasty, very hot and the portions were huge....we will be enjoying our leftovers for dinner tonight.
Has anyone else tried Red House? Any other stand outs on the menu?

Thanks for the tip. I hadn't heard of this place yet, but we'll definately give it a try. Our Chinese food intake nose dived when Jade Palace stopped delivering.

How does this compare to Jade Palace? I haven't been to either yet. Was thinking of Trying Jade Palace because they have duck sauce.

Jade Palace is still a favorite......and yes they have the real East Coast Style Duck Sauce!
Red House is the best strip mall, inexpensive take out we have found w/ an extensive menu...in the area.
I think Jade Palace is more Classic Ameicanized Chinese Sit Down Cuisine....the flavors and quality are great!
Enjoyed Red House...but not a restaurant I would enjoy to sit and dine...to harried. Better for take out!

We finally tried Red House last night...to go. Everyone thought it was very good. Red House bills itself as NY style Chinese food, and I really enjoyed the egg rolls (with pork or shrimp). We had a chicken lo mein (for the kids), orange chicken, mongolian lamb (excellent) and a chicken dish with basil and quite a bit of spice (I forgot the name) that was really good.
The restaurant itself is small with a few tables inside and outside. My impression is they do a lot of takeout business. There were 4 people picking up when I was there. Very good, fast food, and you can see them cooking everything fresh in the kitchen behind the counter. By the way, I really like that every dish comes with vegetables. Thanks for the heads up.

I have read these reviews of Red House. All I can say is it depends what your standards are. Do these reviewers know what REAL chinese food tastes like in the real world (outside Phoenix?)?
They say Red House is New York style Chinese. This restaurant could not stay open to a week in the New York area. I was raised on New York Chinese and have lived in Asia. Nothing here had had any taste.
Sauces were gloppy. Egg roll was stuffed only with cabbage. Hot and Sour soup was thick, brown, and tasteless. Beef and broccoli was very greasy. Dumplings were heavy and just plain bad. We ate one bite only. We left half the dinner on the plate because it was bad food.
It is not that Jade Palace (around the corner) is fabulous, but at least it is real Chinese food. This is not (kung pao shimp was a stir fry with carrots. I don't think they even have carrots in China).
On the bright side it was cheap ($25 for two).

I'm pretty sure they have carrots in China.
I've heard Red House has had issues with inspections. As others have said, Jade Palace is probably the best in this neighborhood. There is also Canton Dragon smack between these two restaurants on 90th St. across from the hospital. I don't know if that has changed hands, but the two times I went were so different from each other that I cannot fairly evaluate it. I'd appreciate hearing what others have to say about that.
I know it's not Chinese, but my favorite Asian place in the neighborhood is Swaddee.

If you are looking for authentic Chinese....the best and closest would be Nee House on Tatum and Tbird. If you are looking for decent neighborhood take out....Red House is decent......
Jade Palace...is good, consistent...Americanized Chinese. Hopefully they are going to start delivery again soon!
Canton Dragon is probably on par or as inconsistent as Red House.....they are good for what they are...but far from Authentic.
You are going to be hard pressed to find Authentic Chinese food in the area of Shea and 90th St...
Decent Asian Take out is available....Flo's, Jade Palace, Shanghai Club, Ling and Louis, Bamboo Club, Swadee,
