I want to get my fiancee and a friend a whiskey/ scotch tasting for Xmas...Anyone suggestion for one in NYC/ Brooklyn/ Queens or Long Island?

  1. If he is a Scotch drinker, do you know what whiskys he tends to order? If he liked Lowlands or Highlands and someone recommended and Islay, that might be all wrong. What brands does he drink?

Captain, I get what you are saying, unfortunately, I dont have much information. He enjoys Jack Daniels, but beyond that, I dont think even he knows. I am looking for a beginners tasting/ education (preferably in a classy setting) that could show him what to look for in a good scotch/ whiskey, what he likes, and why.

    2. The Brandy Library in TriBeCa has single malt tastings every Saturday.

That sounds like a good idea.

Another idea might be to take him someplace that will serve a "flight" of single malts. I know Keens always has some flights it offers.

      2. If you just want to drink and relax, I would do the Brandy Library. If you want some food or a bit of a bar scene, Keens has the very best Whisky list in the city.

Brandy Library is a good idea. If you don't want to do a planned tasting you should try out a classic example of each of the different single malt regions. This will give you a good idea what your friend might like.
