Brewing beer, curing meat, or making cheese?

I just finished reading The Kite Runner, I want Afghani food!

The book was great, by the way. cried a lot. But I also go really hungry! The way the author off-handedly described the fabulous food made me jealously drooly.

How is Azeen's? Is Kabul on Sherman Way even close?

Azeen's is wonderful! :) Highly recommended.

      My favorites at Azeen's include:

      * BADENJAN CHALLAW (Chunks of lamb cooked with eggplant, onions and tomatoes.) It was super tender, flavorful and a distinct taste that stood out from Persian, Pakistani or Indian cuisine.

      * MANTU (Beef dumplings, chopped onions, spices with a yogurt sauce) was also really tasty and distinctive.

      * KABOB-E-GOUSFAND (Tender cubes of lamb, roasted shish-kabob style) was also well prepared. A little more firm than the stew (duh), but still tender and a nice lamb flavor that again was different from the usual lamb kabobs I've had before.

i went to kabul (the restaurant) with some friends on the evening of the 9-11 attacks. we were the only patrons there. the restaurant owners were extremely nice and the food was great. i believe we ate sitting on afghani rugs.

and yes, it was a great book. also check out a thousand splendid suns. kr, the movie, is coming out next week, i believe. i went to a talk with the producer and they are hoping to generate a lot of sales in the big cities so that it can generate more showings in non-coastal cities.

Check out a review of Chopan Kebab House in Northridge that'll be in next week's LAT Food section. Or, you know, just go.

Where in Northridge is it? Does it also have the Afghan food that is similar to pakistani/INdian food?

I agree--Azeen's is great! I loved the challaw badenjan and bulanee. The firnee was pretty good too.
