lyon budget eating

anna_k Nov 29, 2007 07:31 PM

Hi. I will be in Lyons for a few days and would like to know where I can eat for about 10 euros a meal. Most of the posts say a meal would cost between 40 -60 euros. Is it possible to try the local cuisine on my budget ?Walking distance from Rue Garibaldi would be great. Thanks.

Honestly for 10 euros a meal you are really pushing it beyond a sandwich and drink. For under 25 euros there are tons of nice lunch spots with inexpensive lunch menus. For example the bocuse lesser restaurants, les lyonnais in vieux lyon, la bon franquette (I think it is spelled that way).

not sure what you can get for 10 euros other than a sandwich or crepe on the go.

Check out the Michelin Red guide for places that are near where you want to center yourself.

I'm more familiar with the Presque Isle and Vieux Lyon.

For a "relatively" inexpensive very good meal, try Chez Lea (aka La Voute).

Small, modestly decorated restaurant across the river from Old Lyons.

Suggestions: Vingear chicken or Chicken with 40 cloves of garlic, house salad. Dressing for the latter is a secret (Waitress told me she could tell me the recipe, but she would have to kill me. LOL.)

OMG! I LOVE Chez Lea! I have had that Vinegar Chicken recipe for more than 15 years.... and everyone loves it! (also great done with pork chops), but what I love even more is their Lyonnaise Salad, which they make with herring, instead of lardons. I could eat that all day long!

We also like Le Splendid, the bistro of George Blanc, and Comptoir de Boeuf (in Old Town,) the bistro of Philippe Chavent whose fine dining place is La Tour Rose.

I really don't know a dinner restaurant in this price category, but for 20E there is an amazing little family run restaurant in the old town called
            Cour de Loges.
20 E buys you a complete multi course dinner, and the food is delicious.
I reviewed it here in September, so you can google it.
I am now in Frankfurt, wishing that I was in Lyon.

sorry,'I must have been in a time warp.
The name of the restaurant is
              Les Trouvalles
              38 rue de Boef
Cour de Loges was our hotel.
