Siddharta (the veggie one)

Went to Siddharta for dinner last night. (If you don't like Indian vegetarian food, now is the time to click that back button on the old browser!)

This is the one of the three (four?) locations that is a 100% vegetarian buffet.

What a delightful experience. From the moment I walked in the door, I was made to feel welcome by the server. Admittedly, it is a small space, but I was given such wonderful service even though it is a buffet restaurant. For example, I was about to pick up a piece of naan from the buffet spread when he told me that he would bring fresh naan to my table, and did I want regular or garlic naan? This level of service was constant through the whole meal, never intrusive, just attentive and very courteous.

I did get there early (5:30), and having said that, the buffet items were all wonderfully fresh and at a perfect temperature for what they were supposed to be (served hot or served cold). Nothing too spicy, perhaps a bit too much reliance on the potato (an ingredient in three of the dishes), but there was plenty of other items to choose from. Not that the potatoes weren't perfectly cooked...I realise that potatoes keep the food budget down when the punters are lining up at the hot table.

The only thing I was missing was a nice paneer.

Desserts were very nice, some red grapes, two kinds of ice cream, those round brown spheres with the sweet sauce and those orange cubes with the nuts inside (I'm not good with names for most Indian cuisine, I just look and say "me like!".)

At $11.99 for the dinner buffet, I considered it excellent value and will be repeating.

  1. I had an10.30 a.m. appointment in the Leslie & Hwy 7 area. Decided to go over to the " Shoppes " hotel combination and immediately saw I believe the same company sign. I wish I could have went, another time! If this is part of the same 4 sites, The Host is just around the corner to the left within the Hotel/Shopping complex. Certainly as you approach from the south to make a left just north of Hwy 7, the sign cannot be missed!!!! The plaza is somewhat struggling, to allow another very close Indian restaurant may indicate things may be changing???
