Engagement Party dinner (location recs please)

Looking to host an engagement dinner in late January. We're in Toronto and are looking for a place with fabulous food and a wonderful atmosphere in either Toronto, Oakville or Burlington. Nothing too trendy and any ethnicity of food goes with us. Looking for romantic, sophisticated and laid back.

Any recs for places in those cities with excellent food and vibe? Cost isn't a major issue and there will only be approx.20-25 guests.

Thank you!

  1. Once again, I recommend Quince at Yonge and Davisville. They have a private lounge downstairs, with a speaker system, that would suit your party very well. Plus the food is really good.

      you stole my idea!

just for discussion, the resto formerly known as LOLO on Mt Pleasant is now called "simple" and used to have an upstairs private space. not too trendy, nice bistro atmosphere, and decent, please-all-tastes sort of food.

I'll second/third Quince. I ate there for the first time last month (based on the many glowing reviews here) and had a really wonderful experience. I was so pleasantly surprised at the beautiful space (which is sophisticated and laid back -- just as the OP requested). The service was great and all 4 of us loved our food. The private space on the lower level looks great.

I felt like I had a "downtown" dining experience without having to go all the way downtown. It's on our official "go back anytime" list.

      2. If money isn't an issue, I'd rent out a private venue and hire a caterer. You can scroll previous threads for recs, but I loved the look of the Thompson Landry gallery in the Distillery district. Rent it for the evening, then hire a caterer like Jayne's Catering or Toben Food by Design, and let them do what they do best.

This can be done at The Sandra Ainsley Gallery also in The Distillery. It is a gorgeous space but then I am a 'major' glass lover.

        2. Bravi has nice ambience and good food -
