What should I serve with....

a slow cooked asian marinated pork shoulder?

I'm using a Taste of Home (rarely do I use their recipes) recipe that calls for marinading a pork shoulder in:

soy, molasses, vinegar, green onions, sesame seeds, garlic powder, and cayenne

Then I will slow cook it for 8 hours.

Any ideas?

Grilled or roasted baby bok choy and rice.

Steamed butternut squash or kabocha pumkin in cubes - some shape and colour on the plate.

I'd cook some gai lan (Chinese broccoli) alongside the pork. Blanch (0.5-1 minute) and refresh the gai lan in ice water before shaking dry and stir frying with a bit of ginger, garlic and green onion in a wok. Dress it at the very end with some oyster sauce or some of your reduced marinade. A similar method would work for bok choy or choy sum as well.

Or some stir-fried bok choi with lotsa garlic.

I would serve it with sides of sticky rice(cal rose brand, etc...) and some of those long green beans, steamed then sauteed with some green onion, ginger, bit of soy sauce or fish sauce if you have it. Throw a bit of heat into it with crushed pepper flakes.

Always a good thing with that kind of meal to make some extra marinade and cook it down as a sauce for the rice.

Thanks for the tip---I saved about half the marinade so I will cook it down and add a little cornstarch if needed.
