Either Shogun or Miyabi, both of which are Teppan-Yaki places, are fun with a group of that size. Both are on Foothill in La Verne. Grapevine, a Mediterranean place that is also good with a large group, is also open for lunch.

You might have a few more options if you expand the geographic area to include Claremont to the east and Glendora to the west.

In Old Town La Verne (Bonita and D Street), T. Phillips can handle this size of crowd and is a nice sit down place. There's a new place called Angels that serves inexpensive Greek and American diner style food that could also do it, two doors south of T. Phillips.

My wife's office holds a holiday luncheon at T Phillip's almost every year. It's kinda heavy on the red meat...more of a brewpub atmosphere, which may or may not be favored by an 80 y.o. mother in-law, which may or may not be a good thing...

At lunch, I don't think it'd be a problem at all. It's no more red-meat heavy than many other restaurants that do not have the word "steakhouse" in their names.

Except for Saturday nights when they have live bands, it's actually pretty subdued.
