I'm about to start a new job around Telegraph and 29th in Oakland -- kind of a no-man's-land for food as far as I can tell.

Are there any good lunch options in the vicinity? I noticed a taco truck right at Broadway and 29th -- is it any good?

The closest areas with much food that I can think of are Piedmont Ave. and Temescal, but those are too far for a 30-minute lunch.

Hmmmm ... there are a bunch of middle eastern/north african markets in that area that often have ready-to-eat chow. There's a pizza place in that stretch (around the 3300 block), too, although I have no idea whether its palatable. There's a cluster of Korean businesses on the corner of 27th and Telegraph that I think includes at least one restaurant. I think the most chow worthy place is probably the branch of Everett and Jones BBQ next to Neldam's in the 3400 block.

Luka's Taproom is at Grand and Broadway, about 1/2 mile from 29th & Telegraph. Very good food and beer, you'll need the walk afterwards.

There used to be a place called Carrara's at 27th & Broadway, which was quite good. It was in a historic building that it shared with an auto showroom. It's been replaced by something. I haven't been to the new place but it might be worth a try.

Carrara's is now Z's (different owner, I think, check previous thread). From their web site, the seem to focus on the bar scene, but they do have breakfast and lunch.

Consider hiking over the immense hill to Telegraph (or going down to 27th first). Sam Won Korean is on 26th, Amazona's pizza near 24th. If you like Korean food you can take back to work, there's a huge Korean market on 25th. Nedlam's is around 33rd if you have a sweet tooth.

Other choices not off of Telegraph might be the five restaurants on 23rd between Webster and (that Caltrans street), just one block off Broadway.

I've heard good things about Drunken Fish (where Piedmont splits off of Broadway), but was snubbed when I entered, so I have not eaten there.

Luka's is always a good bet but probably won't work for a half hour lunch...you could cross the street (Broadway) from Luka's and pick up some to go chicken at Lousiana Fried Chicken....

regarding those five restaurants on 23rd(which are a block east of Broadway, assuming we are discussing the same spots): the Thai place is only so-so, ditto the Chinese Place (Lakeside Cafe I think it is called?) except for the noodle soups, which are better than so-so and priced right; and speaking of soup, when they have caldo de pollo or de res at the Mexican place next to the Chinese place (obviously I am not good at names) it is worth getting...

yes, I also work in the area, and yes, good choices for lunch around there are, unfortunately, rather few....

Are there really five? I could be wrong. The Thai (Manyda) is so-so, but so is most downtown Thai food. Chinese (Lakeside) I've never tried. Mexican (Gordo Burrito?) is decent, at least as good as any Mexican in the area. And the salsa bar and free chips, plus huge portions, count for a lot.

But that's just three. The only other one that I can think of is Pizza (Soprano's), which has decent slice-and-soda deals, but is otherwise non-descript. I must have miscounted. It has been a few months since I was last in that part of downtown.

yeah, maybe it is four....there is also the Grand Ave Grill nearby (on Grand) which I always think of being in the same area because I walk past it to get to the 23rd St strip...I've never tried it but one of these days plan to check out their burgers and fries....but that is a bit far afield for the OP.

try one of the noodle soups at Lakeside and let us know what you think!
