Chef Akira in J-Town

I work right next to J-Town so I usually hop over there for lunch. Today I noticed a little cafe while driving down 1st street. I didn't catch the name but underneath I noticed it said "Chef Akira's casual dining" (or something like that). Does anybody know what I'm talking about? Has anyone eaten there and do you have any recommendations?

I been there a couple of times, about a year ago. They have a case of simple bento boxes to go (or eat there), which are good. Then they have a few daily specials, hot and cold. The vegetable soup I had there was amazing. I would go all the time, but it is difficult to find a place to park during my lunch hour.

What's the name of the place, if you recall?

I think you're referring to the Garden Cafe near/inside the Japanese-American Museum:

I have not tried that one yet, but I have been to his not-as-casual Maison Akira in Pasadena about a year ago; the food was really good (Japanese-French fusion done right) though more recent reviews seemed to be mixed.

So I tried Garden Cafe yesterday for lunch. Had the beef short rib stew w/steamed rice and a small side salad. Very good. Unfortunately, mookiecat was right - today is their last day. They'll be shutting down their doors. I wish I would have discovered this place sooner.
