Where can I buy bread dough, fresh or frozen, in GTA ?

I am making a bunch of stromboli (an unbaked loaf stuffed with deli meats and cheese, then baked and sliced) for a church event this Sunday.

Loblaw's told me they haven't carried dough "in years" - they have of course the pre-formed bake at home bread products, but that's a heating process only - I need real bread dough to fold the stuffings into and bake.

Any ideas where I could buy this in TO ? I know some Italian bakeries have pizza dough but that's not the same thing though I suppose it could work in a pinch. I'd prefer a central TO location but will travel if I need to.

Thanks !

I got some from Loblaw's and it was good. Too bad they don't have them any more. you should try highland farm.

All No Frills or Food Basic supermarkets will have pizza dough.

No Frills at Bathurst/Wilson and Highland Farms at Dufferin/Finch....both carry a frozen dough for Challah (a twisted braided jewish bread, jews eat on a friday nite).
Its made by a company called "lechners"....you let it rise for 6 hours....stick it in the oven and poof, youve got yourself a "homemade-like" bread. (its twisted in 3 braids though...would that be a problem?)

I buy it at Sobey's. If you want pizza dough, though, your local pizzeria will sell you some for a couple bucks.

Most Stromboli recipes call for pizza dough. It is after all a form of pizza, utilizing similar innards(toppings).

Bigtigger, you can easily find pizza dough in a cooler at Highland Farms or No Frills.
That would be my option, as the Times recipe (Wed., Nov. 21, Wine and Dining section) takes 2-3 hours. There are also unbaked, unrisen frozen loafs at Sobey's.

Those are good suggestions--also any Italian supermarket: Lady York on Dufferin, Fiesta Farms on Christie, Grande Cheese etc.

I know Ace has partially baked and I checked their site and it is 85% baked which is probably too much for your purposes. I would hit up a bakery in your area, they would probably only be too pleased to sell it to you.

Most good bakeries do the long ferment so they probably have dough available at all times. In the east I'd hit St. Johns or Brick Street.

I know this does not answer your question...but there was a an easy bread recipe in the New York Times last week. It was called Simple Crusty Bread. I have not tried the recipe yet, but it seems simple
