Need Central Marin Rec's for New Year's Eve

Civil Bear Nov 28, 2007 08:28 AM

Can anyone recommend a nice place for dinner for four in central Marin? Some place with good food and good wine that won't be running any marked-up New Year's Eve specials would be great. I'd be open to just about any type of cuisine.

I have not seen NY eve specials listed on websites of any of these, but here are three central Marin places that I have enjoyed for good food, friendly ambiance and wine lists. From south to north/west: Picco in Larkspur, no longer primarily small plates but these are good, especially seafood. In Ross, just off Sir Francis Drake Blvd, Marche Aux Fleurs, Cal/French cuisine, run by two lovely people Holly and Dan Baker (she: front of house, he:chef); and in San Anselmo, right on Sir Francis Drake, Insalata's featuring Mediterranean/N. African/Cal cuisine; chef/owner is Heidi Insalata and she is a gem.

This is way out of date, so check with the restaurant, but five years ago I went to Insalata's for New Year's Eve dinner and it was "expensive special" menu only, and not at all special-good either. Quite a disappointment from a place that I've liked a lot for a long time.
