Did you know the Tucson Benihana was just remodeled?!? My boyfriend and I were invited to Benihana's Grand ReOpening party last week! It was soo cool and the restaurant has an awesome new vibe! It has a mixture of contemporary decor and Japanese traditions with bamboo and bright colors all over the walls. They served up some sushi and different varieties of teppanaki, both were really delicious. They had lots of cool new drinks and everyone there took a sake shot together with some of the people who were from the Corporate Offices of Benihana. We sang karaoke all night long...so much fun! I'm going to go back for my birthday with all my girlfriends so we can sing our hearts out and eat great sushi! The event was definitely one we wont forget soon!

Does this belong in the chains board?

At any rate, looks the same as many of the other new Benihanas do. Same as the two up in Scottsdale and Chandler, at least. Since melding with the RA Sushi chain in particular, Benihana has become noticeably more contemporary and casual. And in my opinion, a more generic version of it's former self - food included.

Still decent stuff (and fun atmosphere) however when you live in cities with many more, high-quality sushi establishments available, Benihana tends to rank lower on the list.

I was really hoping after this new remodel and grand reopening, that this Benihana's food would magically be better. Sadly, this is not the case. We have given it a few tries, and every time leave saying we wish it was still Sakura. Sakura has much better quality meats, yummier salad dressing, and just overall is SO much better. I guess we will be hiking across town to the other Sakura when we need our sushi/teppan fix.
