The Glass Boat, Bristol or other suggestions?

Has anyone tried this place?

I am heading back to Bristol after 10 years of being away I am bringing my new wife and some friends from Arizona.
So, I want a nice, but not exorbitant meal in the center of Bristol.

The reviews I have read for the Glass Boat have been very mixed... Some describe the place as run-down with inattentive, rude staff and mediocre food; then others describe the place as exeptional with top class food. I usually steer clear of restaurants with such diversity in the reviews - consistency is a pretty reliable factor as far as I am concerned.

So, if not the Glass Boat then where? The quality at Collis Supper Rooms has deteriorated according to my sources... but 2 possibilities may be Bordeaux Quay or The River Station.

Does anybody have any other suggestions?

We will be staying near Corn Street and don't particularly want to travel out of the city center if that helps.

  1. The Glass Boat was completely renovated a few months ago - maybe the bad reviews predated that? Colleys is really only good with a group, I think the food has improved there over the years - but I've not been for 18 months or so.

I recommend Queen Square (see other Bristol thread), but Bordeaux Quay does seem to be getting it's act together at long last (there were problems when they first opened).

Thanks for the quick reply. We have also read some great reviews of The Mercure Brigstow's Restaurant - which happens to be where we are staying. I might try and book us in there.
I will definitely check out Queen Square - thanks for the tip!
