I'm looking for a restaraunt that serves wild game in San Diego/San Francisco...

I'm looking to expand my horizons a little with Bear, Moose, Goose, Armadillo, Yak, Fox, Coyote, Caribou mainly... I've had a lot of others but these are the main ones I'm looking for, can anyone help me?

  1. Just a quick note that wdragon735 has also posted on our San Francisco board -- San Francisco recommendations should go on this thread: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/46432...

    1. In San Diego you might as well start with The Tractor Room on 5th around Pennsylvania in Hillcrest. They have a web site, you can Google for the menu to see if it fits your bill.

They do have a great menu selection, but we've already had everything on their menu:-) I've e-mailed them to see if they can come up with something different or point us in the direction of someone who can- I am awaiting there response.
        ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS? :-)

try Tapenade in La Jolla. I recall seeing boar on there in the past. AR Valentien might be another possibility.

I'd be curious/surprised if you found Armadillo, Yak, Fox, Coyote and/or Caribou around here.

      2. Third Corner in OB does a wild game week every year. Thee Bungalow used to but I think that was when Ed Moore owned it and now I think it's only at 3c. Get on their email list to find out about it - or check their site periodically.

I can't remember what it's called but the best experience game-wise we've had, was a trek up to the foothills of Malibu to this restaurant that specializes in game (I'm sure a hound on this list can help with the name...help?). Warning though, they have a bit of a taxidermy thing and the walls are filled with the heads of what you're eating.

You are thinking of Saddle Peak Lodge. They do have great game but it is usually boar, venison, elk, and moose group. I have never seen some of the more esoteric game there. It really a beautiful place esp. this time of the year.
