Good lunch places in Midtown

My boyfriend works on 57th between 5th and 6th, and he's having trouble finding places to grab a quick, good lunch near his work that costs under ten dollars. For Christmas I want to find a good place for him, and put a gift card there in his stocking.

Any ideas?

  1. what places has he tried that he doesn't like? on 56th btwn 5th & 6th there are a few spots. Printon is a good classy deli. on 57th btwn 5th & 6th is a spot, can't remember th exact name but something like great american health bar. they have really good soups and make yummy salads. he should check on seamless to see what is in the neighborhood. there is a make your won pasta bar on 56th closer to 5th. i'll let you know if i think of any other good ideas, i used to work in the same area.

Sounds great! I already got a gift card to printon. I hope he likes it. More ideas are welcome, though, especially ethnic ones. He loves that kind of stuff and is having a hard time finding it in that area.

    2. There's two japanese ramen shops nearby, Men Kui Teh (56th, 5&6th Ave) and Menchanko-tei (55th, 5 & 6th Aves) as well as a branch of the very reliable Sophie's Cuban Cuisine (56th, 5 & 6th Aves). All three are good, should be within your $10 budget, but I'm not too sure about gift certificate availability.

utopia cafe across from sophie's cuba is also another option. It serves similiar food to sophie's and is usually 1 or 2 dollar cheaper. (Maybe their food is not as good??? i haven't eaten enough to compare. I do like utopia though) They also seem to be less crowded than sophies so I can usually find a seat (or if I remember correctly sophies has table service. I can save on tip at utopia too ).
