Circa- downtown closing
My friend sent me the following e-mail:
Guys, it looks like the dungeon [broadway cafe] is about to realize a small victory in the competition of kosher eateries. I was in Circa and there were barely any sodas and the pizza area was closed. The mashgiach told me that the place is going under in about a week. Go figure! It looks like we’re back to the good old dungeon for some watery soup and a slice of pizza.

My husband's office orders (ordered?) from Circa downtown regularly. When I told my husband that Circa downtown is closing, he forwarded the information to the woman who orders the lunches, and she called the restaurant directly. Whoever answered the phone claimed that it's only closed for renovations.

I'm glad to hear they are renovating. that pizza oven steam tray counter was poorly implemented as it makes the entire restaurant too humid even with the A/C on full blast, and back a few Months ago, the low ceiling left back dining area was regularly full of flies or gnats. I hope it comes back either as take out only, or a much more pleasant sit down environment. the food is forgettable, but at least it's affordable and wholesome.

My mother spoke to one of the managers at Circa J when it reappeared for an encore performance... He said that they were going to close bec the restaurant didn't make enough profit -- they had to pay a lot in rent, and then hired 2 day managers and 2 night managers (for upstairs and downstairs).

re: Beerhound
I dont think they gain anything, save face. But from what I've heard and read on the internet, thye're telling people 'closed for renovations' when in fact theyre closed for good. thats not the first time thats happened in restaurant biz, especially the kosher one; it happens left and right. places close for passover and never reopen, etc.
