Best of Boston for Dinner

I will be in Boston mid-December. I am staying at the Boston Harbor Hotel, but seeking a dinner destination after the Nutcracker (at the Opera House). Where should I go? A serious foodie, I am so disappointed that No 9 Park does not have availability .... and I've been to Locke Obre. Suggestions?

I second the Troguet recommendation - I ate there tonight and every mouthful was fantastic. Teatro is also good and right around the corner from the Opera House but a bit noisier. You could also try Pigalle which is in the area as well.

No 9 Park is my first choice, consider Mistral or Clio

What time does the Nutcracker end? Many restaurant kitchens in Boston start closing at 10:00 and you may be further limited in your choices by when you can get there.

I think Rubee's suggestion of lunch at No. 9 Park is a good one.

I'll let the other hounds correct me if I'm wrong (because I STILL haven't been to No.9 Park, damn kids) but I am fairly sure that No.9 has unreserved bar dining, with a different menu, that has been more highly recommended.

You're right Chris VR - the bar at No 9 is a great spot to dine at, especially since you can order from both the Cafe/Bar Menu and the Dining Room Menu. However, it can be tough to get a seat - it only sits about 10-12 and is very popular, so best bet is a bit early. The cafe area, however, is also very nice and has unreserved seating.

BTW, I know you're looking for dinner, but they are also serving lunch through the month of December. More info and hours here:

No. 9 Park has served lunch for as long as I can remember. Does "through the month of December" mean they're going to stop lunch service next year?

They stopped serving lunch 6 months ago. They reopened for lunch to catch the holiday crowds in December.

My suggestion would be Prezza in the North End. Very high-end Italian restaurant with excellent grilled meats and pastas. IMHO it is the best of high-end Italian places in Boston.

Prezza was a fabulous choice! The best North End experience I've had thus far. Creative & well executed. Thank you for the suggestion.

Thanks for taking the time to report back!

I'm so happy you enjoyed Prezza. Along with many 'Hounds, we love this place. We've been going since the first year they opened, and it never disappoints.

You've got some good recommendations so far, but I'd also highly recommend Troquet which is very close to the Opera House. I had a fabulous meal there a few months ago and am ashamed to realize I haven't been back yet.

I'm not sure how late the show you're seeing gets over, but it might make a difference where you go or if you can at all if it's very late. Some very expensive but excellent spots to consider within reasonable striking distance from there: (walking distance) Pigalle, Aujourd'hui, (easy subway ride) L'Espalier, Clio.

You might want to try Clio, although being that its the holiday season it may not be so easy to get a reservation.
