Diedrich Coffeehouse - another one bites the dust

Das Ubergeek Nov 26, 2007 07:33 AM

A big sign in the Diedrich Coffeehouse next to the Trader Joe's across from UCI that their last day of business will be tomorrow, Tuesday, November 27.

I assume that, like the others, it will be converted into a Starbucks, since Diedrich Coffeehouses are now owned by SBUX.

Sad. I was so stoked when I found out that one was still open.

My Diedrichs was the one on Lake Forest and Muirlands, I was pretty upset when that one closed.

Starbucks just doesn't feel the same.

      According to their website:
      http://www.diedrich.com/strpages.tpl?cart=11961065441722991&strpage=storelocator

Apparently there are a couple locations still operating.

The brand is not going away. Key word? Franchise :-)

They haven't been the same for quite some time now, anyway (the Dietrich's have been out of the operation for over a year, IIRC).

If you haven't already, you should go to Kean's, in Newport Beach on 17'th at Irvine Blvd. It's owned and run by Martin Dietrich himself, and it's very good.

Yea I've been there quite a few times. I love it. But I live in Dana Point, and that's a bit of a hike for a cup of joe.

Try Javatini for fresh roasted coffee. They just opened one on Moulton Parkway in Laguna Niguel, and one on Main Street in Costa Mesa (not far from So Coast Plaza). Drinks are good; they'll also custom roast a pound of coffee for you (your choice of about half a dozen beans) while you wait. Takes about 20 minutes. The original store is in Seal Beach.
