Any great sandwiches, al la Bay Cities, Eagle Rock Italian Bakery or Fredo's, or a great burger near there?

  1. I've been told that there is a good little bakery with amazing sandwhiches on Spring and Palo Verde in the Albertson's shopping center. Sorry, but I am not sure of the name.

It used to be a Mrs. Field's sandwich shop (can't remember the name), and the menu's pretty much the same. The menu is pretty traditional (ham and cheese, egg salad, turkey, tuna, etc.) but the breads are quite good.

The place you are thinking of is Grounds Bakery. Fantastic bagels, I'm sure the sandwiches on their homemade bread are also wonderful. For pics and review...

As mentioned by others, Dale's is great for breakfast or a juicy hand formed burger. For pics and review...

For take out and no-nonsense burger joint food, my favorite is Golden Eagle on Willow and Cherry. My favorites are the turkey burger and breakfast burrito, which is a giant bomb of bacony goodness. For review and pics...

Here are some pics from Bake & Broil too... great cake.

      2. Check out the restaurant upstairs at LB Airport called The Prop Room. Good place and great airplane memorabilia / photos.

The food at the Prop Room is horrible.

the food is not great, but it's such a fun place to eat for the reasons servorg mentioned. the fried zuchinni is pretty good. hard to mess that up.

I have only had the burger there but it was fine. Not something I would call a destination meal but there was nothing wrong with it that I recall.

i believe it is closed for remodeling. but it is a kick to eat there. feels very 50s.

          2. re: Servorg

The Long Beach Airport is going through major remodeling. The Prop room will now be a Legends and most all items sold at the airport are locally made. The coffee is from Polly's and the pastries are from Sweet Jill's to name a few. It is a great thing that they are doing to promote local businesses.

          3. Bake & Broil for burgers nearby on Atlantic. Fantastic pies too.

            1. I thought Cisco Burger on 620 Anaheim, had a good Kobe beef burger. If nothing else, I would like your opinion on it.

Love their Kobe beef burger, but only during lunch time on the weekdays. They have different cooks on the weekend and at nights and they don't taste the same. I ask for rare and they always overcook it when it is not weekday lunch time. Apparently upon discussing this with one of the servers, they said that regulars will walk in and if they don't see the lunch cook, they head straight back out. They also have great onion rings and fries, they do frings. They use organic ketchup at the tables, but not for to go orders. There are also daily specials and I am hankering to try their fish tacos.

Thanks for the heads up. I did go at lunch time. A little cheaper than Tops, but also smaller at 1/3 pound.

It's not very close to LB Airport, however.

                3. Dales Diner, 4339 E. Carson, just a few miles north of the airport, great burgers and great diner experience. dalesdiner.com

                  1. best food near long beach airport is baja sanora - voted best taco's in lbc and cheap too. Happy hour everyday 3 til 5:30 $1.25 hard shell taco's and $2.00 beers

                    1. The little center at Lakewood and Carson, where Dale's Diner is, also has several little places. Across the street from Dales, there is a Lebanese place that's tasty, and a Vietnamese Pho place that I've heard good things about, though I've never been there. There's also Japanese food. If you go a little further north, to the Lakewood Mall, at Lakewood and Candlewood, there are several places including a Super Mex, and a Chipotle ( I like their carnitas - they also have - surprise - margaritas, one of which gave me a buzz!). If you really want good Mexican food, drive another 2 miles north on Downey to Artesia blvd - Enrique's. Fantastic.

                      1. If you dont mind beer bar food a really good burger (and very good homemade fries) at Thirsty Isle. CArson and Lakewood. Great patty melt.
