Sweet Basil -- Vail

Had another excellent lunch at Sweet Basil. This very popular venue has served great fare for many years. We started with an off-the-menu special of Pureed Black Bean Soup served over a block of feta with crispy blue corn tortillas, an order of the fabulous Crispy Rock Shrimp and Calamari and excellent Duck Confit Crispy Tacos. The only thing we had not eaten before was the soup and it was really tasty. My wife and daughter both opted for the Shrimp and Calamari for their entrees. I had the Sirloin Burger, cooked as ordered to a pink medium. (So nice to find a place that isn't afraid to cook a burger to order!) Everything was excellent, as expected. If you haven't eaten at Sweet Basil, do so. (Side Note: Seeing the "see and be seen" clientele of Vail is almost worth the price of admission!)

We had planned to try Vista in its new location in the Country Club of the Rockies at Arrowhead, but after pigging out at Sweet Basil, we just weren't up to another big meal. We laughed that this always happens when we eat lunch at SB. I would like to have tried Vista -- have heard some good things about it. By the way, although it is behind the gates of a very private country club, it is not private. You just drive up to the gate and tell them you are going to Vista to eat and they will let you in and give you directions.
