Several months back I asked for opinions on buying a TASSIMO as a gift for my son-in-law... got enough good opinions as to why 'not to buy' (cost/variety of pods etc. etc.) I am now looking to buy the CHEMEX ( I love the look of it!!) It'll be bought in the States and shipped there as well so I have no problem with duty etc. Asking for opinions/suggestions once again....Do you love it? Do you hate it?.......do tell and thanks!

Chemex is simple, elegant and functional. I'm looking for one on eBay, as I am nostalgic for Chemex coffee I have enjoyed in the U.S. My preference is a large one, 8-12 cups, hand blown. If he is accident-prone, regular glass will be fine.
It seems to work best when the coffee is pre-wetted, and 200F water poured in, in two stages, over four minutes.
Some people prefer to have a Salton type wamer under it. I don't, as it encourages keeping the brew too long.

I had a medium-size one and found it makes good coffee. However, you might find it a little slow if you're in a hurry to get out of the house in the morning. Also, the coffee cools off rather quickly.
