ISO Best Coffee Ice Cream in LA

This Christmas I'm giving my sister an ice cream maker which she'll find after an elaborate scavenger hunt around the house Christmas morning. One of the stops on her trek will be a pint of her favorite flavor, coffee.

Where oh where in LA can I find the most amazing coffee ice cream ever to be formed from the caffeinated bean? I'll even bring an ice chest filled with ice if I have to. Any suggestions?

You want the best? I suggest BULGARINI GELATO in Alta Dena. Call first to be sure they made it that day. You can buy a half kilo for about $15.

Hmmm this is gonna be a hard decision. Right now I'm leaning towards trying to find one of the McConnell flavors. But I am intrigued by the idea of getting gelato instead. That never even occured to me. I might just end up getting both!

Probably not what you're wanting, but Double Rainbow at Trader Joe's is pretty darn good unadulterated Coffee Blast.

Frankly, my favorite ice cream though anywhere is RITE-AID/THRIFY!!!

Starbuck's (I know, I know) Java Chip is incredible.

Also, try MILK, {third Pazzo Gelato}, Caffe Primo, and Mashti Malone's (ironic, huh?)

With the demise of Eiger in Brentwood, my favorite coffee ice creams are McConnell's and Fosselman's. McConnell's is based in Santa Barbara but they have a stand at the Fisherman's Wharf in Redondo Beach, and can be found in the freezer at Gelson's and Whole Foods.

Scoops is also quite good, although I've never had their coffee ice cream. I'm not recommending gelato since that isn't quite the same thing, but if you're up for it I'd try Pazzo on Sunset (although, again, I haven't tried their coffee flavor.)

I would definitely recommend Pazzo -- not only do they often have interesting coffee combinations like espresso/hazelnut, they are making single origin coffee sorbets with Intelligentsia coffee, for real coffee lovers.

Don't know know if you if this foots the bill but McConnell's, http://www.mcconnells.com/flavors.html, has GREAT Brazilian Coffee and Turkish Coffee Ice Cream that you can purchase at Gelson's. Its from Santa Barbara, but available here in LA. I get mine at the Mayfair Market in Hollywood.
