1st date tonight - anything but Italian. Hollywood/WeHo area, but willing to travel a bit. A place to have good conversation, tasty food, and make a great first impression.

Thanks, y'all!

Yamashiro? Don't be silly ... you want the person to have a shot at a second date, don't you?

Providence in Hollywood, or Comme Ca. Or perhaps Sona? Expensive though... I'm not sure about Yamashiro, the food is not that good, although atmosphere/view wise it is nice ..

I think Providence and Sona would be over the top for a first date. Maybe Hungry Cat?

the last time i went there, the tables/seating at the hungry cat were far from comfortable. we sat on little wooden stools out in the patio area. the inside of the restaurant seemed to be under construction.

the food was sublime, but for a first date, i'd opt for a more comfortable spot.

Since you didn't mention budget, I'll point out that most of the places mentioned so far are rather pricey. Unless you're a trust-fund baby or this is an episode of The Bachelor, you might want something a little more modest for a first date.

These were my suggestions from September for a first date in Studio City, just over the canyon from WeHo:

            I LOVE Hugo's restaurant - http://www.hugosrestaurant.com/
And, I think it's a great place for a first date. Also, Brasilia in Los Feliz area.
            Have fun! :) KQ

given no price point, if you like to share, you could do cube, lou on vine, or tasca for small shareable plates. the courtyard has good tapas and great ceviche.

could also go over to los balcones de peru for peruvian and cheaper.

ethiopian at rahel or meals by genet could also be an adventurous meal.

or go to il pastaio in bev hills and then maison 160 after for drinks!

Not sure if they're open on Sunday's, but I think Ammo would be a good choice for a first date. Good comfort food. Full bar.

By now, you're already on your date. Hope it went well. Where did you go??? For next one, try Sunset Plaza, which has some fun places that are fairly casual - Le Petit Four, Cravings, etc.

Not Yamashiro. I like Le Petite Bistro on La Cienega, north of Melrose. Ask for a booth inside.

The Foundry on Melrose. I think near Gardner. The outdoors is beautiful, and romantic, and the food and service if fabulous.
