Regarding " 'New' Member Recipes " Section

Okay, maybe I'm missing something here. Is there a separate link to the 'New' Member Recipes section. Or when a recipe is submitted by a member does it end up somewhere in the 'Recipes' link. I would think that Member Recipes would be a separate link and if it is...I can't find it. There's only two recipes in that section used for submitting your 'Member Recipe' mine and somebody elses. I'm wanting to view other Member Recipes. HELP!

  1. Don't feel bad I submitted a recipe as urged to do so (thank you!) and now can't seem to find it. I see other recipes in the category I chose, but recognize no members names...
I'm glad you asked, I was about to.
And I have to agree with others after seeing those in there, it does look like duplicating one's efforts. I do like the idea, just simplify it for us...Thanks in advance CH Team!

Here's a link to your recipe:

      http://www.chow.com/recipes/11248

If you click on "save to my Chow" above the recipe, it will show up in your favorites.

Okay. I submitted my Chicken Satay Omelette in the Breakfast/Brunch category (type: Fusion). As of yet I don't find it there, unless I'm overlooking or somehow missing it. Again please HELP. Also I take it that the 'Recpies' link includes recipes submitted by members and that there is no separate link to a 'New' Member Recipes section, correct?

It can take a bit of time for the recipe to show up, but here is the link to it:

          http://www.chow.com/recipes/11252

You are correct that right now there is not a separate link to recipes posted by users.

          1. re: The Chowhound Team

What is considered a 'bit of time"? That's quite vague, really. I don't know when chef chicklet's recipe was added but I still don't see it in the Soup/Salad/Sandwich category. My reicpe, Chicken Satay Omelette, which was up on the 'Recently Added' section most of the day yesterday is now gone and has not been added to the Breakfast/Brunch category. It's really disappointing when one has gone to all the effort of posting a recipe to share with others only to have it take such a long time to be added to the category it was posted in on the 'Recipes' section.

There is a problem with the "Browse by" function, for both cuisine type and course type. The way I am finding recipes now is by tag, but that doesn't find recipes with no tags added.

              1. re: hannaone

If what you say is the case I may have to rethink posting my reicpes here at CH. I mean, why bother if such problems exist? I have other sites where my recipes are viewed immediately albeit not in a format like this. I was hoping this would be the case here. But again, if it isn't I'm not going to waste my time just not have my recipe available to others, which is the main reasons I think most of us do it for.

                1. re: crt

It's a new function and they are still working the bugs out. I will keep using it for awhile to see how it goes.
Another thing you can do as a temp is to post a topic in homecooking that links to your recipe.

              Well I've got to ask.

Why are you asking us to submit recipes then? What is the purpose for us to submit? And please be honest with the response because nothing is making sense.

By sending me a link to my recipe, makes absolutely no sense to me. I would think you have better things to do then post a link, without an explanation.

How is a CH member supposed to find a recipe? I am interested in the Chicken Satay omelet, and if i were scrolling breakfast items, and I was able to see the recipe, theres a great chance I would try it, and then offer my feedback to the author.
If your "beta test" was rolled out too soon, please just say so.

I totally agree chef chicklet! Especially the part about the sending me a link to my recipe part, and not offering any explanation. That is absolutely rediculous. I don't like excuses like we've got to work out the bugs. If you weren't ready to launch a service, you should've waited until you were. I don't think anybody likes having to jump through a bunch of hoops to navigate in and around a website to find things. This is 2207 isn't it? Damn, it's nearly 2008! By the way 'CC' when did you submit your recipe, just curious. Both of ours are still out of the 'Recipe' loop and only available on this post via a 'link'!

                1. re: crt

Best I can tell, 3 days ago. There is no indication that there is even a CH member cookbook button or board when looking at the home page or My Chow. Irks me.

      2. I think I finally figured out what is meant by "It can take a bit of time for the recipe to show up," means. Maybe never, at least for some here. Chef chicklet...I forgot I had submitted a salsa recipe for the 'condiment/sauce' section, and I know it's had to be at least a couple of weeks ago, and guess what. It has never been 'published'. I would've never know if I hadn't gone into My Chow Favorites and saw it just sitting there along with my now never published omelette recipe. Those must be some horendus bugs that 'hannaone' is speaking about. Again I have to wonder what's the use of wasting time trying to publish a recipe here at CH. I may try one more, but if I don't see it or my others, published in a timely manner I'm going to forget about ever posting more recipes here. And I'll have to tell my friends don't bother. Don't want to give them any false hopes, all that you know.

          WOW! What the heck?
This is like not getting invited to a party you wouldn't be caught dead at. No its more like getting a verbal invite, then showing up and they gave you the wrong address.

I am trying to keep a sense of humor with all this. Don't stop publishing your recipes, people like me really appreciate your effort and skill.:) I suck at those little face things (rarely use them)
I hope you know, I am being sincere...

        2. First, thanks for the recipes you have submitted and for your feedback about this feature. We're working on several improvements which will be rolling out in the next several weeks.

In the meantime, here is where you can find member recipes on the site:
          - On the chow.com front door and in the promotional unit on the right column on other pages, you'll see the 2 most recently submitted member recipes. It takes approximately 15 minutes for a new recipe to show up in that unit. You can this unit here: http://www.chow.com/

          - On the submitter's my chow page, under favorites. For instance: http://www.chow.com/profile/23712/fav...

          - In site search: http://www.chow.com/search?search%5Bq...

          - In google & web search: for instance: http://www.google.com/search?q=alcapa...

In the next few weeks member recipes will also show up in recipe category & cuisine pages, labeled as member recipes, and on a special index page just for member recipes that will be linked from the promotional unit and from the recipes navigation.

Thanks again for you feedback. We'll update this post when these improvements are live.

So does all this mean that my and chef chicklet's recipes will finally be migrated to 'member recipes' and/or the 'special index page just for member recipes' ? Or will we have to resubmit them?

You won't have to resubmit them, no. They will appear in those sections. We're working on it -- thanks for all your feedback. I totally agree that it's a necessary addition to make the feature more usable.

Also, for anyone who hasn't seen this thread in home cooking: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/463667

It lists all of the member recipes posted so far -- and thank you to hannaone for starting the list!

            2. We've created an index that shows all Member Recipes & Hacks:
              http://www.chow.com/recipes/types/user

This is linked to from the Member Recipe promo in the first column on http://www.chow.com, the right column on http://www.chowhound.com.

The link also appears in the navigation menu under "Recipes".

We will be enhancing this page in the coming weeks (sortable by username, course, etc), and also adding member recipes to our regular course & cuisine pages within the recipe section.
